Wouldn't you know it? Matthew's a poet!

I wrote a month or so ago that a poem Matthew submitted to the GFWC Brentwood Woman's Club Poetry Competition won 1st place for his division (grades 1-3).   The awards reception and ceremony was supposed to be last Thursday, but was postponed due to the snow.  It was rescheduled for today and it really was a neat event.  Matthew was tickled pink that when he walked in and introduced himslef that everyone knew he was the person who wrote, "I Love Saturdays."

The winners read their poems and were presented with a ribbon and framed copy of the poem.  A book of poetry was also donated to the Kenrose library with his name in the nameplate.  Very cool!   We won't know until March whether his poem is advancing to the statewide competition.  It's currently being considered at the district-wide level (all of middle Tennessee).

In other news, it was a great, but very busy Valentine's Day.  Both kids came home with scads of Valentines and other goodies.  I helped at Matthew's class party this afternoon (Gracie had a sock hop last week) which can best be described as "sugar filled."

We had a very late dinner (by Helou kids' standards -- 7:15 pm) after Matthew's basketball practice.  Bassam cheffed up some pork tenderloin and picked up chocolate covered strawberries from Whole Foods.  Yum!   Bassam and the kids also gave me some beautiful flowers and  a gift certificate for pedicures.   All in all, a great day!
